Question about Salary Negotiation

Why should you NOT answer when asked what your salary expectations are when you're early in the interview process?

  • It's a legally binding agreement.
  • The company may decide the increase your comp later if you interview really well.
  • The other side can box you into that number to increase their negotiating power later. Especially if the comp is lower than what they were willing to pay you, it'll be more difficult for you to negotiate it higher.
